AS PART OF THE NEW BEGINNINGS EXHIBITION, ARTIST @ESRAPAINTER REPRESENTS B3: A PIECE OF FREEDOM.

In B3: A Piece of Freedom, the artist addresses the complexities of protest and the idea of freedom. Protesting from a place of comfort, she reflects on the privilege of speaking out on behalf of others who may not have the freedom or the safety to do so. This series of paintings imagines a protest, not in the grand scope of revolution, but within a smaller, intimate corner—where the personal is political.

The works in the collection focus on the act of protesting for a freedom we often take for granted, asking: Are we truly free? Each figure in the series emerges from a monochrome backdrop, symbolizing the struggle of protest, with a burst of colour representing the cause they fight for. The words “I Am…” are embedded into each painting, representing the core belief that drives the individual in their march.

The questions that are at the heart of the collection are what is your prison? And, do we fight for the freedom of others, without realizing we are still imprisoned ourselves?

The final painting in the series brings together the fragmented figures in a larger snapshot, portraying the figure fights not only for others’ freedoms but also for their own unacknowledged battles.
